Access to electricity in Guinea-Bissau
Guinea-Bissau, in West Africa, has 1.6 million inhabitants on more than 36,125 km². It’s one of the poorest countries in the world. Guinea-Bissau holds the 177th position on the most recent Human Development Index of the UNDP.A mere 5.7% of the nation’s people has access to electricity, but at irregular intervals. Only 2.6% of the population has access to electricity on a permanent basis.
The political situation remains unstable after the military staged a coup in April 2012. National elections were scheduled for November 2013, but these eventually took place in April/May 2014.
